creative zii egg gets hands on company hope to harness knock off developers

http://www.slashgear.com/creative-zii-egg-gets-hands-on-company-hope-to-harness-knock-off-developers-3150862/

By Chris Davies on Friday, Jul 31st 2009

We’re indecently curious about Creative’s imminent Zii EGG developer design, what with its iPhone-like looks, 10-point multitouch display and potent ZMD 05 “Plaszma” module, so it’s interesting to see the first of the hands-on reports from over in Asia. HardwareZone and CNET both stopped by the Creative offices to take a look.

The pre-release versions on hand lacked multitouch support and had only patchy Android support; in fact, Android won’t be loaded onto the initial Zii EGG units, which are expected to begin shipping by the end of August 2009, with the devices instead running the company’s own Plaszma OS. Android will be released shortly after, as soon as Creative have ironed out the bugs.

Interestingly, the company is hoping to muster some of the “Shanzhai” developers in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan to work with their new platform. “Shanzhai” is the name given to the proliferation of derivative or copied devices that follow big-name product launches; however Creative believe that enthusiasm and expertise – as well as their speed of development – could be used to drive Plaszma. For the Shanzhai developers themselves, they’d get the support of a single OEM providing the relevant hardware parts.

Whether or not that pans out remains to be seen, but we’re still curious to see the commercial derivatives of the Zii EGG prototype

iriver Android iPod touch rival, plus ebook reader & internet tablet tipped

By Chris Davies on Friday, Jul 31st 2009

Details of iriver’s upcoming range have leaked, courtesy of an Australian distributor, including such fancies as an Android-based iPod touch rival, an ebook reader and an internet tablet. The iriver K2 is expected to launch in 2010, with a 3.5-inch touchscreen display, integrated WiFi and Bluetooth and a digital TV tuner; it will also, according to C.R. Kennedy iriver product manager Danny Bejanoff, use Google’s open-source Android OS.

iriver android mockup

Other specifications include an accelerometer and browser, and while the device would obviously lack the iPod touch’s App Market, it would presumably have access to the Android Market for third-party software. However, according to Bejanoff the iriver K2 has not yet been green-lighted, and details such as screen type and onboard storage capacity are unconfirmed.

News of the ebook reader and internet tablet is even more scant, though Bejanoff seems more confident about their reaching the market than he is the K2. No release dates, prices or complete specifications – never mind word from iriver themselves – for any of the three devices, but we’d sure like to point iriver in the general direction of Creative’s Zii department and see what happens

Creative Zii Touchscreen PMP Spotted

Author Gordon Kelly
Published 8th Jul 2009

http://www.trustedreviews.com/mp3/news/2009/07/08/Creative-Zii-Touchscreen-PMP-Spotted/p1

The Creative Zii processor has had more hype than it can possibly live up to. Since its CES unveiling in January it has also been deathly silent. Until now...

In what looks to be the company's first moves in the PMP market for some time an FFC patent filing has revealed the Creative 'Zii'. Details are understandably scant and all we see are these two rear view sketches, the later showing an 'Egg' Developer Edition ('hatch' analogies anyone?). What we can gather however is rather intriguing.

Most notable is the clearly labelled 'HD camera' something which suggests not only a minimum of 720p recording on the device plus inevitably stills but that web rumours the iPod touch is getting its own camera are likely on the mark. Furthermore, the Zii will be touchscreen and come with WiFi. As for the OS it seems Android will be the prime choice since the processor has already been impressively demoed on the open source platform.
So that's about all we have to go on. Creative bragged with the launch of the Zii processor "Everything you know is about to change..." - bring it on guys!

Oi! this guy also got run what, how come not selected?

team run2eat T shirt and singlet ver 1.0

Attached are Hazel visuals of our running tops. Please give her some clap clap lah.

Take note that this is preliminary and subject to changes and final confirmation.

We will be using no brand dri-fit material, (unless some rich uncle/aunty wanted to sponsor Asics, adidas etc....) cost including silk screening should be below $10.

Sizes will be from #32-48. To determine your size, divide the number by 2 and that will be the width of the shirt chest in inches.

eg. size 40 is 20 inches.

Regarding the tag line, after brainstorming with Hazel, we narrow them to 3

Pain has a new name; it is call Mara ;-)

Marathon - 马拉松
Maratong - 马拉痛

Marasong - 马拉颂

got road...run
got mountain....climb
got food....chiong ah!

Actually I prefer the first tag, but Hazel was concerned about "pain", she says it has a negative tone. Stubborn girl, she can't accept my translation of "pain" actually can be positive if you look at it from the correct angle:) So we finally agreed on the third tag. Reasons being

1) That was how the name team run2eat came about
2) I just love "chiong ah!"

Please click here to vote for your favourite tag line.

Pain is inevitable, Suffering is optional

Since started running marathon, many friends asked: "what so shiok/song about marathon?"

To tell the truth, I really don't know ;-) but thinking back, every time during a marathon, when the going gets tough especially after 30km, the thought of quitting never cross my mind. Was it due to with every heavy steps, I remind myself: "Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional" I must say the thrill of the adrenalin rush always overwhelmed me after the race. The pain is worthwhile as I become a happier, more appreciative, more grateful person. In life there will inevitably always be pain, but you have the choice to either continue carrying the burdens or break free and leave the pain behind.

I will be doing the yellow ribbon prison run on 6 September 2009, which happens to be my birthday :). I am inviting all my friends to join, you can either run or walk. Please register at http://www.yellowribbonprisonrun.sg

28 June 2009 KL Marathon 马拉颂之 一月两马

When I boastfully told chow meng about my 1 month 2 horse, he half lifted his eyes and said lazily : "mai how lian , lim pei since mata cheng tay kor orledi every week 2 马,ur 马 2 legs, my 马 4 legs!"

My 2nd marathon in June

KL marathon finish - 05:29:10.

Split time

10 km 1:14:29

20 km 1:12:54

30 km 1:17:25

40 km 1:28:15

42.195 km 0:16:35

If you love slope, steep slope then welcome to KL. While it was a good run, too bad it became a good run spoilt due to poor coordination and organisation.

First, the pleasant surprise -they provide sponge after the 1st 5 km and there after every 5 km, but just when the sun came out and oh no! no more sponge after 20 km mark!

A bigger surprises await us, after 25 km, some water station ran out of cups, so OK we still can drink from 1.5L bottle albeit with only 200ml of water in it. At 35 km water station, got cups, but no water. Lucky for us there were still water at 40 km point. Pity those slower runners, I heard they ran without water from 15 km - 35 km.

The traffic control was another challenge. At many junctions, there were no polismen, it is you again the traffic. The most horrifying part was at the 32 km , we were running on the right most lane of a 4 lanes highway, it was a steep incline and accompany our run were cars and lorries zooming past us at more then 100km/h. Quite an experience.

I heard that previous KL marathon also had lots of hiccups, butthen they were charging only M$50, cheap entrance fee, pay peanuts get monkey, OK lah. But this year with Standchart as the title sponsor and entrance fee increase to M$210, we expect something better. Whatever said, for the love of marathon we can excuse other sloppiness, but no water at water point ?- siow liow lah! that amount to murder for a marathoner!

Apology from KL marathon event organiser http://kl-marathon.com/

Octagon as the event organizer of the Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2009 acknowledges that there were technical and logistical issues that affected a number of runners.

As the Race Director, I would like to apologise to runners who had a bad experience connected to the marathon. It was never our intention to cause any distress. We have always aimed to provide a positive and memorable experience for runners in Malaysia. We have taken all your feedback and this will go towards improving the standard and experience for all runners next year. Once again, my sincerest apologies.

As an update, the complete database of results and timings are now available. You may search for your individual results here.

Should you have further questions, you may contact us at 03 7843 3180 or via email at inquiries@kl-marathon.com

Hemant Dua (Race Director)

Next year KL again? thanks but no thanks. ( I said the same thing too after SD ultra, but hey are we running SD ultra again next year? YES SIRE!!! )

Morale of the story : Never trusts a marathoner when he said he will no run........

run the first part of the race with your head

the second part with your legs

the final part with your heart - chiong ah

The next 3 month, no marathon for me. But I am not standing still, I will engaged a personal trainer to help me to built up my speed and endurance. Target 4:30 for Dec SCSM.
